Laurie Lee Cosby
Laurie Lee Cosby, lyric coloratura soprano and multi-styles singer, is co-founder and co-director of Studio Bella Voce. She serves as the Executive Director for DFW and also serves as Voice Adjunct and Handbell Director at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas. Ms. Cosby is a board member of the DFW National Association of Teachers of Singing and is a member of American Guild of English Handbell Ringing. Her certifications include Elisabeth Howard’s acclaimed Vocal Power singing method and a Texas Teaching Certificate in K-12 Choral Music Education. She received her master degree in Vocal Performance from The University of Tulsa and her bachelor degree in Choral Music Education from Dallas Baptist University. Ms. Cosby also holds summer study credits from Westminster Choir College. Ms. Cosby has received coaching from Elisabeth Howard and Greg Hilfman of Los Angeles and has been directed by John Reed of London. Laurie Lee Cosby’s career has been incredibly broad. She has filled the roles of soprano soloist, leading actress, orchestral/choral/handbell conductor, clinician, adjudicator, music theatre director and music instructor. She has held hired positions in churches, colleges, schools, fine arts academies and theatres. She is a published arranger of children’s songs for the Association of Christian Schools International Bible curriculum. In her home studio, she has had NATS 1st Place winners in both Classical and Music Theatre, Most Outstanding Student for UIL, All State Chair winners for TMEA and TPSMEA and nominees for both the Tommy Tune and Betty Buckley Awards. She has also had numerous scholarship students in both Classical and Music Theatre including to prestigious schools such as OCU, NYU and OU.
Ms. Cosby’s performance credits include oratorios, opera, operetta, music theatre, theatre, concerts, recitals, radio spots and participation in semi-professional handbell ensembles. Ms. Cosby has performed with the Kingwood Pops Orchestra, directed by Gary Liebst, Texas Brass Blues Band, directed by Daryl Bayer and Conroe Symphony Orchestra, directed by Dr. Don Hutson. She has appeared with the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Tulsa, directed by The D'Oyly Carte's, John Reed; American Theatre Company of Tulsa; The Crighton Players of Conroe, Texas; Voices in Bronze, directed by Christine Anderson and Tulsa Festival Ringers, directed by Jean Hendon. Concert, show, chapel or recital appearances with other professionals include international jazz sax artist, Dr. Woody Witt, Texas Brass Trumpetier, Daryl Bayer, Broadway's Doug LaBrecque, Dove Award Winner, Don Wyrtzen and as Tulsa back-up for contemporary Christian artist, Steve Green. Her favorite roles include Papagena, in The Magic Flute, Babe in Crimes of the Heart, Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus, Beth in Little Women, Cecily in The Odd Couple, Sarah Brown in Guys and Dolls, Florence and Belladova in Phantom, Cinderella in Red Glove Revue, Maria from Westside Story and Christine from Phantom of the Opera in the All the World’s a Stage Revue and the soprano arias from Handel’s Messiah and Vivaldi’s Gloria. Favorite works as orchestral/choral conductor include 1776, Cinderella, Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Carol, and Vivaldi’s Gloria. Favorite musicals directed and scripted include The Promise of Joy, All the World’s a Stage Revue and The Jesus Tree.
Ms. Cosby has an eclectic life style which includes her husband, Dave Cosby, and their two grey tabby cats, Mr. Darcy and Lizzie. In her spare time she loves to cook and travel.
